Formspring Asks

There’s another neat site that I came across a few weeks back called formspring.me – You may have seen tweets by people you follow that say “Ask Me Anything!” I had seen a someone’s formspring profile and thought nothing of it the first time around but then I saw tweets coming through with the “Ask Me Anything” message, and I became interested. Such a simple concept: its twitter inspired but you only ask and answer questions.

It takes the same idea of updating status messages like you have with twitter but instead of the updating at random – what formspring has done is taken a simple status message forum like twitter and peeled off into something unique. Instead of tweeting at will, narrow down the activity by only asking questions and answering them. You then can follow people’s answers and have people follow yours. That’s it.

I guess you could just tell everyone to ask you questions on your twitter or facebook and you could accomplish the same thing but its so much more interesting when the activity of Q’s and A’s are corraled into one place like formspring.me.

I tried it out and it’s like I said, neat. I mean, next month it could be a twitter-inspired site that lets you post short messages about songs you like, oh wait – that’s Blip.fm – or a twitter-inspired site that lets your write short messages and attach media, ah that’s tumblr. Well whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be neat.

As for me, you know I’m a sucker for WP. Anything neat you throw at me I’m going to try to accomplish the same thing but with wordpress. You may have read some of my other posts on the implosion of social media…I’m not creating anymore profiles on social media sites with the intention of using them with any real frequency. My social media widgets are too full with favicons as it is. Craziness. I’ll test these neat trick sites sure but I’m commited to DIY moving forward.

So I’m working on an Ask Me theme that you’ll be able to find on http://nahummadrid.com/ask

That’s Nahum

That’s Nahum

Just a quick explain about this blog.

My Profile is my facebook-myspace-social networking rolled into one. I figured I’m not going to continue jumping around checking all my profiles and I just need to bring it back to one place. There are now sites that consolidate your social media into one place like cliqset but that’s still someone else’s silo.

My Blog is my wordpress. Beautiful wordpress. That’s self explanatory.

My Channel is my youtube, vimeo and even ustream if I want it to be. One thing I couldn’t do is mix up my favorites from different video sites on each of these sites. Maybe youtube will do it now that I said. I just wanted a channel to put my favorites from my different video sites into one place. Again, maybe there is a site that does this but I’ll just go ahead and do it myself.

My Notes is my tumblr-twitter. I have my tumblr/twitter-like page set up on my notes so that I could quickly drop my microblog posts in place. I had a tumblr but it was just too much work to go all the way over there to make a post and I stopped tweeting a while back so I’ll just do my status messages here close by.

My Photos is my flickr. I posted a few photos on flickr but it was all too much for me. I’m putting these now in my photos section. I know what you might be thinking but I’m not too worried about the size of the photos or the hosting. My goal with this site isn’t to have tons of traffic. I may even make the photos section, maybe even the entire site accessible to friends only.

…and I’m not finished, I want to see how far I can take this framework. It’s good, fun practice.

29

I turn 29 in 3 days and just like I said 26 would be my year and it was, I have a good feeling about 29 – my daughter’s year too! She’ll be here in a few weeks.

This has finally pushed me to launch. I’m going to kick up the blog finally after a year of “blogging” but not actually blogging, I’ve been too tied up in the backend building the framework you see working on this wpmu install. I’ll go into detail in later posts of why and how I’ve done this. It may fall under the category of mega-blog. You’ll see it’s pretty wild.

I look forward to 2010 and turns out that turning 29 is not bad at all, just think of who’s moving in on Feb. 17 and I don’t care so much about getting old.

Happy New Year 2010

Hello World! This is my first post to start 2010. No parties or ball drops here…
